The Young Communist League stands in solidarity with Cuba against the criminal and genocidal blockade imposed by the USA. The blockade was imposed on the socialist country in 1960 as a response to the Cuban revolution in order to, according to Lester D Mallory, US Assistant Secretary of State, "weaken the economic life of Cuba... to bring about hunger, desperation, and overthrow of government". The people of Cuba are being punished by imperialist powers for the crime of charting their own economic, and political path, and not being subservient to capitalist and imperialist interests, the international working class must oppose this criminality in its entirety, as Friedrich Engels said "A nation cannot become free and at the same time continue to oppress other nations". There is a fight back against the blockade, Ottawa Cuba Connections, a Cuban solidarity organization in Ottawa, hosts a monthly picket one the 17th of each month at 4:30 pm, outside of the US Embassy on Mackenzie avenue to protest against the blockade and to build the movement for Cuban solidarity. The Young Communist League regularly attends these demonstrations to show solidarity with Cuba, and to oppose US imperialism.
